MTO Tip #1: Stick With Soft, Gentle Foods

During the first few days, your teeth may feel tender, especially when biting down. Soft foods that don’t require much chewing are your best friend. At our orthodontic office in Palo Alto, we recommend yogurt, smoothies, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, soup, pasta, soft fish, and well-cooked vegetables. These foods are easy on your teeth and still provide the nourishment your body needs during your Invisalign treatment. 

MTO Tip #2: Cold Foods Can Be Soothing

Cold foods like smoothies, chilled applesauce, or yogurt can help reduce inflammation and ease soreness, similar to how ice helps with muscle aches. Just be sure to remove your Invisalign aligners before eating and rinse your mouth before putting them back in.

MTO Tip #3: Avoid Hard, Crunchy, or Sticky Foods (At First)

While Invisalign® gives you more freedom than braces, the first week isn’t the time for crusty bread, chips, nuts, or chewy candies. These foods can be uncomfortable on sensitive teeth and may slow your adjustment process. You’ll likely be able to enjoy them again once your teeth settle into the routine and your orthodontic care in Palo Alto.

MTO Tip #4: Eat Balanced Meals to Reduce Snacking

Since aligners should be worn 20–22 hours per day, frequent snacking can make the first week feel frustrating. Planning balanced meals helps reduce the need to remove your aligners constantly, and keeps your wear time on track.

MTO Tip #5: Stay Hydrated

Water is always safe to drink with aligners in and helps prevent dry mouth. Staying hydrated also supports healing and overall comfort during those first few days of treatment.
